 — Ball mill classifier systems have been improved over time and are now capable of achieving much finer products. In the past, a particle size with a D97 of 10 microns was only possible. Now particle sizes down to a D97 of less than 3.5 microns can be achieved, with a D50 in the range of 1.5 microns.

The BLVT Classifier is designed to optimize the air and material flow inside the mill and minimize unnecessary internal recirculation. This is accomplished by controlling the gas speed distribution of the classifier from material entry to exit.

 — In the "Functional Performance Characteristics of Ball milling" approach (McIvor, 1988–2008) the effects of milling parameters, circulating load and classification efficiency are quantified based on circuit surveys and laboratory testing.

Classification system efficiency (CSE) is a composite measurement of the net performance of the classification system in a ball milling circuit. Functional Performance, as developed by McIvor, defines Classification System Efficiency, as the net amount of coarse material in the ball mill (McIvor, 1988a).
