Flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) systems have been used to limit the release of sulfur dioxide (SO 2) from coal-fired power plants since the late 1960s. The solids produced by FGD systems represent the second-largest coal combustion product (CCP) stream by volume, exceeded only by fly ash.
The flue gas desulphurization (FGD) system removes the sulphur compounds (SO2, SO3) and acids from the flue gas. The majority of sulphur removal systems use wet FGDs, where the gases are passed up in a tower against a counterflow of a limestone slurry to remove SO2, SO3, HCl and HF.
Salalah International Gypsum Co. L.L.C., or SIG in short, is the leading natural gypsum producer & exporter from Sultanate of Oman. We are located at Salalah in the Dhofar governorate, which is the southernmost part of Oman.
Limestone-gypsum method in wet process is the most mature and most widely used desulphurization method among many desulphurization methods, with a desulphurization efficiency of up to 90%.

— At the same time, production of FGD (Flue Gas Desulphurization) gypsum continues to be stymied by shortfalls in investments of US$13 billion necessary to build FGD plants. In the light of the scenarios outlined above, Oman has emerged as the single most important supply source for gypsum.
— Flue Gas Desulphurized Gypsum (FGDG) is a by-product generated by the thermal power industry to remove sulfur dioxide (SO 2) from flue gas emissions. This paper provides a comprehensive review of flue gas desulphurized (FGD) gypsum production, property, and applications in the construction industry. In 2020, global FGD gypsum …
— Flue gas desulfurization gypsum (FGDG) is an industrial by-product generated during the flue gas desulfurization process in coal-fired power plants. Due to its abundance, chemical and physical properties, FGDG has …
— The case of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) provides a relevant historical analogy for end-of-pipe technologies such as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Both technologies aim to remove harmful...
